Proofreading for Students and Academics

Before printing out and submitting your dissertation, thesis or article, you want your text to be thoroughly checked to make sure it is clear, accurate and error-free.

When you have put a lot of time and effort into your research, it can be easy to lose sight of the details. You have a clear idea about what you have discovered and what you want to say, but that makes it difficult to see what is out of place or not there at all for someone who has not been on the same research journey.

Academic writing is a specialist skill. More than just checking for spelling, punctuation and grammar, a proofreader will need to pay careful attention to the use of specialist subject terminology, correct tone, referencing, and that style sheet conventions have been adhered to. Sometimes this approach is called proof-editing.

Having been through the PhD journey, I know very well the worries of style sheets, and as a proofreader, I have ten years worth of experience working with academics and students to get the final document in shape before it is time to print out and submit.

I specialise in humanities and social sciences, but I have substantial experience working across a range of disciplines, including fields as diverse as artificial intelligence, psychology, business and economics. I am comfortable working with a wide variety of academic style sheets, including MLA, Chicago, APA, and Harvard, among others. I am also experienced working with texts written by authors using English as a second language.

I offer a free proofreading sample of 500 words so that you can see the quality of my work before you commit. This also allows me to get a good idea about how much work is going to be required so that I can provide you with a fair and accurate quote.

If you would like to know more, please get in touch. I look forward to working with you!
